We continue to receive requests for information on Judy, Minelli and
Lucky and want to thank everyone that is interested in adopting them.
If you have contacted us expressing interest, please continue to have
patience as we work through the heartwarming number of calls and e-mails.
Having a permanent home for the trio doesn't appear to be a concern
thanks to all of these contacts, though picking just one home
from the (literally) hundreds of e-mails/calls that we have
received is going to be difficult--we're sure that there will be many
wonderful options to have to choose from!
Both
Judy and Lucky have officially started treatment for their heartworm
disease, and are doing very well so far! We're monitoring them
closely for any signs of distress, as heartworm treatment can be very
hard on dogs. Another concern with treatment is that the medication
can be difficult to obtain due to a manufacturing shortage--with dogs
the size of lovely lady, Judy, that can be especially challenging!
On behalf of Judy and Lucky, we'd like to remind everyone of the importance
of heartworm prevention! For more information on heartworm disease
and what you can do to prevent it, please click
here.
If you are interested in adopting this unique menagerie (the three will
be placed together) please e-mail your contact information to us at
elpo@welovepets.net so that we
can send you an application. It is heartwarming to see the many
offers to adopt, and it will be difficult to choose from among all of
the wonderful homes available! We appreciate your patience as
we continue to work through the high number of e-mails and voice mails
that we have received.

Our wonderful trio is continuing to do well! We've had visitors
inquire as to where Lucky is, rest assured that he is still with us
and getting plenty of attention. With the heartworm treatment
being underway, it was decided to have Lucky lodge separately
for the time being so that everyone can have room to rest and relax
during the treatment/recovery period. We still have every
intention of having the trio be adopted together!
Looking for a fun way to support Judy, Minelli and Lucky? Gabriela
Pataro of Café Lago is
hosting “Nibbles for Kibbles” on August 8, 2010 from 3 PM
until 6 PM! For a $20 donation per person, attendees can enjoy
light snacks and a cash bar to raise much needed funds for the interesting
menagerie. Barring any complications from their treatment plan,
there are even plans of having the trio make an appearance and possibly
even a visit by John Wylie Price who was campaigning for the safe return
of Minelli.

Our wonderful trio continues to do well, and enjoyed a fun afternoon
outing at Cafe Brazil this past weekend! A HUGE thank you to Gabriela
Kovacic for having this wonderful event, where over $2100 was raised
to support the medical care of Judy, Minelli and Lucky! Speaking
of medical care, Judy and Lucky are gearing up for their next round
of heartworm treatments. Once they've recovered from the treatments we'll
be making plans for spays, neuters and dentals! We're receiving
adoption applications for the trio--if you're interested in adopting
all three together we'd love to hear from you, too! Adoption applications
will be accepted through August 31, 2010. To receive an application,
send an e-mail to elpo@welovepets.net
or stop by in person at East Lake Veterinary Hospital, 10101 E. Northwest
Highway, Dallas, Texas 75238.

Judy and Lucky have both had their final heartworm treatments and are
in the final stages of recovery from heartworm disease! They'll
be ready for surgery in just a few weeks, and will be spayed/neutered
and have their dental concerns addressed. We've had some
people comment that Judy appears to have gained weight, and we're happy
to see such a positive result of the care she's been receiving!
Adoption applications are arriving, if you are still interested in adopting
make sure you submit yours now--applications are being accepted through
8/31/10 so the deadline is quickly approaching! It will still
be a few weeks before they are officially ready to leave, but we feel
like we're in the home stretch now! We've become quite attached
to the trio but can't wait to see them in a home where they belong!
September 9, 2010
These past two months have had us receiving an extraordinary amount
of support for Judy, Minelli and Lucky. Our amazing trio is doing
well! They are starting to wrap up the treatments needed before
being placed in a permanent home together. We're sorting through
the adoption applications that we have received and trying to find the
right match--all of the applicants are such wonderful candidates that
it's going to be a difficult choice! But a choice must be made,
and we anticipate that we will be saying a very fond farewell to Judy,
Minelli and Lucky by the end of this month as they embark on their
next adventure together.
September 30,
2010
We have adoption applications narrowed down to five serious contenders,
and we expect to be making a decision any day now! In the meantime,
Lucky has completed his medical treatments and is ready go to!
Minelli just needs his teeth and hooves examined before he is cleared
for release as well. Judy, on the other hand, has had to have
her spay and dental postponed due to an infection in her feet.
With oral medications and daily foot soaks we're working deligently
to get her on track with her necessary surgeries but as a "gentle
giant" her veterinary bills are starting to pile up again--her
antibiotics alone for this infection are running well over $100 per
week! Donations can be made now by visiting http://www.elpo.org/donations.html (please
mention "the trio" in the comments section when making your
donation). Treatment of this infection is anticipated to take
anywhere between 3 and 6 weeks so we will also be re-evaluating our
plan on the best way to get them home together where they belong as
quickly as possible!
October 21, 2010
Lucky and Minelli are doing very well and are patiently waiting as Judy
continues treatments for an infection in her feet. Progress is
being made, and while Judy still has more necessary care before the
trio can be released for adoption we are anxious to learn how well her
treatment has progressed--a medical test in the next week or so should
help us determine how close she is to being cleared for surgery (she
is still in need of a dental cleaning/polishing and spay). If
her treatments continue to move forward as well as we hope, then we
may be ready to make our final decision on their new home in time for
Pet Fair.
November 4, 2010
Our magical trio is doing great, and we're going through the five adoption
applications that we have it narrowed down to.The time to decide has
arrived! Judy's infection has mostly resolved and we anticipate
that she will be cleared for her spay and dental procedure within the
next week! The chances of The Three Amigos going home by Pet
Fair are looking better and better every day, so keep sending happy
thoughts their way--as well as donations, we are continuing to medicate
Judy until she is officially cleared and can still use your help today
with the mounting expenses that a lovely, large lady such as Judy can
incur!
November 11,
2010
Judy has been so well that we were able to have her spay and dental
completed yesterday! She's recovering nicely and calls have started
going out to the five adoption candidates so that a final decision can
be made. If all goes well with Judy's post-surgical recovery and
coordinating schedules with the selected adopter, the terrific trio
could be headed home as early as this weekend!
November 20,
2010
The adoption applications have been reviewed, all the wonderful applicants
have been interviewed... Each applicant had such wonderful things
to offer, but only one home could be selected. The decision was
tough, but we're excited to announce that The Three Amigos will be going
home together after the Thanksgiving holiday! It's been an amazing
journey for everyone involved and we couldn't have done it without the
support of everyone that has been monitoring this story since the beginning.
We look forward to hearing how the trio spends their first Christmas
at home!
